UNIQUE EUROPEAN MOTORHOME DISCOVERED AT LOUISIANA KOA CAMPGROUND

By Harold Merton

Photos by Harold Merton

We've seen a lot of unique recreational vehicles in our 41 years of
publishing Scope Camping News Magazine but a recent meeting chalks up as one of the most interesting we have seen.

While camping at a Louisiana KOA I was talking to a work camper who was taking reservations when up drove a very different style motorhome.

Another camper said to me "Boy that's a different motorhome .. what is
it?"

I replied "I don't know - I have never seen anything like it!"

The work camper said "What does it look like?"

My response was "Sort of a cross between a garbage truck and a motorhome!" I was not trying to be derogatory just descriptive. The work camper made a comment to that effect but the other camper "a middle-aged lady" said "we'll that's a pretty good description of what I see!"

I had to leave the office at that point but made a note that this was one
that I would like to take a closer look at later. What I did not know at that time was the unit was from overseas and was driven by a gentleman that spoke no English.

Later when it was set up on the campsite I learned that it looked a lot
different than the way I saw it at the office. When I saw it then there were
no windows visible on the side and other than the RV door on the passenger side I might have thought it to be a delivery truck.

When stopped, the roof is raised by motors inside giving much more
headroom and revealing a number of windows.

I tried my best to speak to the operator but the lack of English and the
probability that he is constantly spoken to about his unique RV caused him to cut his conversation with me very short. He was polite ..but just!

I did learn that the RV was from Sweden and that the chassis is a Volvo.
More information however was not forthcoming.

It was obvious that there was a long climb of stairs to get up to the
living area of this RV and the windows seemed to be the location of sleeping areas and other living areas.

I am not certain if this was a production model RV or a "home brew" but if it was homemade the builder did a great job.

The couple had apparently brought the RV over from Europe by ship and were travelling the United States.

I am sorry that we cannot supply more information on this unique RV but
thought readers would enjoy seeing it anyway.
