Travel writers pick top ten spectacular panoramic viewpoints

The Society of American Travel Writers, one of the largest professional organizations of travel journalists and photographers in the world, has selected the ten most spectacular panoramic views in the United States.

A survey among its members resulted in the following as their pick for the greatest views in the U.S.

(10) The National Mall, Washington, D.C.
 (9) Diamond Head, Honolulu, Hawaii.
 (8) Big Sur, California
 (7) The Chicago skyline seen from a boat on Lake Michigan
 (6) Yosemite Valley, California
 (5) San Francisco from the Golden Gate Bridge.
 (4) Monument Valley, Arizona.
 (3) A helicopter view of the Na Pali Cliffs of Kauai, Hawaii.
 (2) South or North Rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona and
 (1) New York City viewed from (a) the Empire State Building, (b) from the Staten Island Ferry, (c) across the Hudson River or (d) when flying into New York at night.
