Glendale RV introduces revolutionary new Titanium fifth wheel

By Harold Merton

Glendale Recreational Vehicles had made a big impression with the introduction of their new Titanium fifth wheels.

By bringing what we used to refer to as the “cab over” more towards the front of the tow vehicle they have been able to not only shorten the tow length of the same size vehicle but also offer a more useful front bedroom area with plenty of headroom, something that is quite often a problem with many fifth wheel trailer designs.

The unique new “cab over” design permits more of the RV interior layout to be positioned forward of the truck rear axle. The result of this forward shift of the floor plan allows for the combined length of the fifth wheel and truck to be considerably shorter. Company literatureshows their 28EX model to be 15% shorter than the same size trailer and truck in conventional styling.

The driver now experiences all of the comparable interior living space, comfort and features of a longer fifth wheel trailer while enjoying handling benefits of a much shorter fifth wheel vehicle.

Glendale’s redesign of this unit was a response to recent increases in fuel prices and the continued trend by truck manufacturers to scale down truck sizes.

The Canadian manufacturer is using a light weight tubular aluminum framing used with 2” thick sidewalls and a 5 1/2” thick truss roof assembly. Their vacuum bonded, ultra smooth Lamilux exterior sidewall fibreglass provides a “beam like” structural integrity according toGlendale statements.

The units also feature light weight ABS molded exterior lower sidewall skirting and are R-16 thermal insulated with 3” thick composite floors.

Aerodynamic radius exterior corner moldings enhance styling, are said to improve safety and provide a superior moisture barrier along exterior structural joints.

Glendale is using the testing facilities at Bosch Automotive Proving Grounds in New Carlisle, Indiana and is claiming an 11% fuel savings during track tests.

Other positive features of the new Titanium line include holding tanks that are enclosed, insulated and heated (select models only), sewage termination valves that are enclosed and shielded from road salts, mud and dirt (select models only) and a seamless polymer moisture barrier in the floor assembly.

Dual powered front landing gears on selected models offer hassle free levelling.

From all reports Glendale has a winner in this new model.
