MISSISSIPPI'S FROG HOLLOW CAMPGROUND A DELIGHTFUL OVERNIGHT STOP

By Harold Merton, Publisher

Scope Photos by Harold Merton

As we travel the highways of North America going from area to area we
quite often like to stay at smaller RV parks run by families. Many of these are in rural areas and we find the people there very friendly.

We meet a great number of fabulous people this way and on one of our
return trips from the Southern United States we ended up near Grenada, Mississippi about the time of day that we like to pull in for the night.

A quick scan of our "big book" campground directory showed us that there was a small campground not too far up Interstate 55 that we were travelling on.

The name "Frog Hollow Campground & RV Park" struck me so we decided that we would call ahead to see if they had any sites left. This park has a total of 49 fully-serviced sites and 12 electric only so there was a chance that they might have been full.

We were lucky and they had pull-through spots available so we continued on our way with Frog Hollow as our destination.

This family park is owned and operated by Beth and Larry Muschinski who are now in their seventh year at the campground that sits on 13 acres just off Highway 7 North at Exit 211, and Exit 211 on I-55 just fiv e miles north of Granada, Mississippi. They are mid-way between Memphis in the north and Jackson in the south, about 100 miles from each.

It had rained heavily that day and there were a couple of sites that would
not have been convenient to try to set up on but Beth found us a great
pull-through site just past the entrance to the park. The park is appropriately named because there are replicas of frogs
everywhere!.

When you enter their office there are frogs ... when you head to the
washrooms there are frogs. They are in display cases, on counters and
shelves and there's a great display of frogs outside in the garden. These of course are all replicas of the real things which also inhabit the woods around the park. Friends and campers now also add to Beth's collection when they see something they think would look good there. There's a "Slow Frog Crossing" spot part way back in the park.

While this is a small park, they do offer good facilities to the overnight
traveller. They have both 30 and 50 amp hookups and have some long
pull-through sites designed for the big rigs. We had plenty of room to
position our SUV and 30 foot trailer when we pulled into the site. <
There are showers, washrooms and a laundry and they offer limited
groceries and gift shop items. Propane sales are offered on site and they have ice on hand. A recreation hall is available from 8 am to 9:30 pm.

Frog Hollow is located 30 miles from Batesville, Mississippi and 40 miles from Oxford. This rural campground is also popular withe local people, especially during Labor Day weekend when they hold their annual "Fiddlin' With The Frogs" Bluegrass Festival.

There is easy on and off access at I-55 and Highway 7 North and this
delightful little rural RV park is open all year. If you are travelling on
I-55 hop off and slide in to the park, they will welcome you!<
