One of Galveston's most impressive attractions is a sight
you can see very easily.
Moody Gardens is a family and convention complex comprised primarily
of three pyramid-shaped buildings that house a rainforest, an aquarium
and one pyramid that allows you to experience the mysteries of science
- the Discovery Pyramid.
In addition there is also a water park - Schlitterbahn and the Colonel
Paddlewheel Boat where you can enjoy an hour-long cruise on a replica
of an 1800's paddlewheeler. Dinner and private cruise are also available.
In the Rainforest Pyramid you can explore primitive rainforests with
animals and plants your only dreamed about seeing including exotic fish,
ocelots, tamarins sloths, butterflies and other rainforest animals.
It is truly a breathtaking experience.
Over at the Aquarium Pyramid you can see what it would be like to dive
into the ocean in a one and a half million gallon aquarium teeming with
creatrues from penguins of the Antartic to stingrays and sharks of the
Caribbean. Then you will find seals from the North Pacific. The kids
will love the huge glass walls that allow you to look right in.
The Discovery Pyramid lets everyone get into the action with lots of
interactive displays. Their Journey through Amazing Music lets you explore
the science behind the music in a way never before imagined. Learn about
exotic instruments from all over the world and play, drum or sing your
way to a whole new understanding of music. Kids of all ages were totally
involved in this exhibit when we visited.
Outside at Palm Beach you can relax on their white-sand beach or play
a game of volleyball in season.
There are a number of films shown in their giant six-story Imax 3D theatre
and one is included in your daily admission ticket.
Rides are a hit at Moody Gardens.
Strap yourself in for the ride of your life. You'll dive, twist and
turn
as your seat mirrors every movement on a giant-wrap around screen with
surround sound.
In the Majestic Gardens you can explore more than 25 acres of lush indoor
and outdoor gardens filled with thousands of exotic plants, roses, fragrant
herbs, oleanders, palm trees and more. There's a backyard habitat that
promotes conservation and demonstrates how to attract wildlife using
plants native to Texas.
Of course there are plenty of dining and gift shops to serve not only
the
day visitors but those who use the complex for conventions, ice skating
and other activities.
Moody Gardens is a beautiful place and a great source of education for
the youngsters.
When we visited - a one-day pass was $31 per person which included one
admission to each of the three pyramids, the Ride Film Theatre, Imax
3D Theatre, paddlewheel day cruise weather permitting and the discovery
museum. Children under 3 are free. A two day pas was $41 per person
and included unlimited admission to all attractions on two consecutive
days.
They hold a Festival of Lights in November and December with displays
like Santa's Workshop, a Gingerbread House and a Nativity. They top
it off with live music, dance troupes and choirs and are open Christmas
eve and Christmas Day.
Moody Gardens is a great adventure when visiting Galveston Island.
